A 65-year-old man from Maine died after getting shot by a booby trap in his own home. The Van Buren Police Department said that Ronald Cyr called 911 to report he had been shot, and when officers arrived, they found a device on his front door that was "designed to fire a handgun should anyone attempt to enter the door." Paramedics began to treat Cyr and rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers discovered other booby traps in his home and contacted the bomb squad and the Maine State Police. Following an hours-long investigation, authorities determined that Cyr had been shot by one of his own devices. They did not release any details about the devices they found inside his house.
Officials do not know why Cyr had rigged his house with deadly booby traps, or how he managed to accidentally shoot himself.
